'Looking Further': Watercolour painting with Pip Compton
You may recognise Pip Compton as the talented illustrator and designer behind Tamsin’s Table visual details including our postcards, notebooks and wrapping paper and we’re not the only ones who think she is amazing; she is loved by some of Victoria's best florists, creatives, producers and makers for her witty, delicate and always distinctive brand imagery and packaging.
We are very lucky to have her join us here to lead this beautiful day - think art class /field trip/reflective contemplation - using one of her favourite mediums, watercolour paints, to capture the beauty and simplicity of natural and found objects.
A trained teacher, Pip will guide you through a series of exercises to help you hone your observational skills and ‘look further’ into the natural world, as well as techniques to capture the essence of what you see on the paper in front of you.
The class will include:
an introduction to brush strokes and colour mixing
putting these into practice by painting one of Pip’s own illustrations (reproduced as a fine art giclee print)
an extended ‘field trip’ through the garden and farm to collect inspiration in the form of feathers, flowers, bird nests, insects and leaves (or anything else you find) and practice visual note taking, before starting your own watercolour work under Pip’s gentle tuition and guidance
and of course a beautiful three course lunch which we will come together to prepare using ingredients just picked from the garden.
The aim of the day is not (necessarily) a completed work but rather this is a chance to tap into your intuition and creativity in a beautiful location as a basis for further explorations at home.
Suitable for passionate creatives at any skill level including beginners.
